Autumn Gaming and Black Dragon Games

Welcome All!

As the days get shorter and the nights get longer the sound of dice still echoes through the Whissendine Village Hall!

Phase 1 of the Sable Chronoschism is well underway!

Group 1 is vying for control of the Shadowlands of Sable, and the implacable forces of the machine-God are proving their worth, undefeated so far with only a game to play. The ancient wisdom of the Asuryani saw them defeat the resolute Iron Warriors, however the Ultramarines are yet to play their hand and take to the field.

Group 2 inhabits the Ebon City, and here things are much less clear. The Grey Knights made an early play for dominance of the region, winning their first two games, however their advance was halted when they attacked a force of Astra Militarum from the Forcadian Hawks. The Guardsmen know nothing of the existence of the Grey Knights and mistook their psychic prowess to be a pact with the Dark Gods. The agents of change displayed a dominant performance in their first game but have much to play for, whilst the Drukhari Raiders are yet to show their true strength.

Elsewhere, the Age of Sigmar tale has commenced, with the Maggotkin of Nurgle making the early running at this time.

Not only that, but this Autumn/Winter sees the opening of a new resource for wargamers in the club's area! Black Dragon Gaming in Melton Mowbray is set to open its doors to customers for the first time on the 27th November, and what's more, they're running a special opening weekend sale, with an extra 5% off! Members of MaD Wargaming will be around in the store on opening weekend, whilst our very own member of Siege Studios will be judging their painting competition.

Check out Black Dragon on Facebook, and if you can, please head over to the store to show your support! There are lots more exciting things planned both at the store itself and in conjunction with MaD Wargaming over the coming period.

Finally, the Gridiron calls! MaD League V is fast approaching, with team sign-ups due to open by the end of November.

Till next time,

And we're back!

Well, there you go, re-opening night done, and a very healthy turnout it was too! 16 people played, with more turning up to see the new venue and introduce themselves to our newest members, it was great to see the new venue already accommodating more people than we ever managed to squeeze into the old place!

Most games played were 40k this week, the majority at 500pt levels just to get everyone familiar with the rules of the new edition.

Next week (7th October) we already have five games arranged and booked in, with another 3 players looking to play games in our tale of warlords series, The Sable Chronoschism (see the page above for details) and another 1 player looking for a game of 40k.

The following week, we'll see bolt action return to the club as well as our contingent of historical system players make an appearance.

MaD League Bloodbowl is set to return in November, and I've also secured the latest release for Aeronautica Imperialis as a birthday present so will be looking to get some games of that in to learn the rules in December.

Till next time,

(Re)Opening Night(s)!

Welcome back all!

Further to my last post (see below) I am happy to inform you all that we have found a new venue!

Whissendine Village Hall will be accommodating us for the foreseeable future, next to the White Lion Pub on Main Street, Whissendine (LE15 7ES). The What 3 words location is ///marmalade.magnitude.glimmers

Yes, that does mean that if you fancy a quick drink part way through a game you can just nip next door for a pint!

Our first night at the new venue will be the 30th September from 18:30, and the booking secretary will be on hand to answer any questions we might still have on that day. I don't think he's planning on attending every week just yet though, he's not on the slippery slope just yet!

On that note however, a big thank-you to Robin for helping to arrange things, it's safe to say that without him we wouldn't have been able to book the venue at all.

Before that however is our first meeting at The Flying Childers in Kirby Bellars (///feathers.drawn.unfit) LE14 2DU - check their website at https://www.flyingchilderspub.co.uk/ we'll have use of a dedicated room from 18:00 and 20% off food orders while we're there.

Till next time, stay MaD

Triple D out.

Welcome

 WELCOME!

Welcome one and all to the new website for the Melton and District (MaD) Wargaming Club. We have all been living through unprecedented times these past seventeen months, and MaD has been no exception. We took the decision back in February of 2020 to shut down the club due to the rising threat of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the following month the Government in the UK locked down the nation to combat the threat to our health and livelihoods the virus represents.

Things are gradually returning to normal however, and with that comes the welcome news that the club will be able to open up again and once more the hall at Asfordby will echo with the sound of dice being rolled in mock anger (and after that seventh '1' in a row, maybe some actual real anger!).

We don't yet have a definitive date for the re-opening of the club, however that will be posted up here as soon as we are informed by the Hall Organising Committee.

We had hoped to be able to greet you all with news of a new, larger venue for the club, however at present our search has been fruitless, but we continue to look for new premises to accommodate our expanding membership (not just those lockdown pounds, I mean those people who have joined the club during lockdown!)

In the spirit of new beginnings, we the organisers behind MaD have been beavering away feverishly to bring you new and exciting events to make your gaming life even more rewarding and fun than ever before. To that end, the re-opening of the club will be heralded by not one, but two 'Tale of Gamers' series to help and encourage members to build and paint a new army over a period of a few months. One for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar (A Tale of the 3rd Age: Search for the AmberBone Ring), which coincides nicely with the new 3rd edition of the game, and one for Warhammer 40,000 (The Sable Chronoschism) - with 9th edition having been released in July of 2020 now is the perfect time to get to grips with the new rules as part of a regular gaming calendar.

We will also be running a new MaD Bloodbowl League, our 5th at the club, and once again with a new edition having been released during lockdown, what better time is there to pick up a new team and get practicing with those block dice!?!

Finally we are very excited to announce a partnership with The Flying Childers in Kirby Bellars, who have offered the club the use of one of their rooms every month and 20% off food bills (not drink) on the night too! Whilst the rooms are not suitable for full-sized games such as 40k and AoS, they are perfect for Magic: The Gathering nights, or smaller skirmish games such as Warhammer: Underworlds or Bloodbowl. We'll update you all with more details as soon as the first date is fixed in the diary.

I've probably said enough for now - I'll no doubt be back soon, hopefully with a firm date for opening night (don't forget to wear a tasteless Hawaiian shirt, I will be!) and an idea of what games we'll be seeing there!

Till next time, stay MaD
